After Rickenbacker, Roger Rossmeisl joined Fender and designed several guitars for them, the most 'popular' being the thin-line Telecaster. But the Montego and the LTD are my favorites, and are the continuation of the Roger-brand guitar designs that he built everywhere he went.
The Montego II features a classic archtop design with a full-bodied, hollow construction that delivers rich, warm tones ideal for jazz and blues. Rossmeisl’s influence is evident in the guitar’s sleek, curved lines and meticulous attention to detail. The spruce top and maple back and sides are not only aesthetically pleasing but also contribute to the guitar's resonant, acoustic qualities.
1971 Fender Montego II
This is the model that is basically the 'son' of the Rickenbacker Jazz-bo. Roger kept building the same guitar throughout his career, with each new version improving on the prior. From experience I can agree - this has superior playability as compared to the earler Roger brand guitars I own. The last of the variants were the Montego I, Montego II, and the Fender LTD.
This was formerly owned by Randy Bachman of BTO fame. It's also unique/odd as it has a Broadcaster label in it, not a Montego label as expected. No idea why.
