Vox Japan Current Era

Starting around 2011, Vox shifted its guitar production toward lower price points — initially Indonesia, then more broadly China, with some models designated "Made in China / Assembled in Japan." The country of manufacture is generally stamped on the rear of the headstock or on a sticker, which makes it easy to identify.

Post-Virage, Vox Japan's output has been sparse. What they have produced is top-tier — genuinely pro-level instruments — but the approach has leaned heavily toward limited editions of entry-level China-made models, sold primarily in the Japanese domestic market. The pricing on these tends to be high relative to the base instruments they're derived from, and the limited Japan-only distribution constrains the audience. It's a strategy that seems to underserve what the Vox Japan name could support.

Notable modern Vox Japan releases include the “Artist Series” Starstream guitar and bass — futuristic instruments with a Vox-proprietary body shape and full Japan-built construction — and a series of limited edition ukuleles. All are worth seeking out if you encounter them.
