Rickenbacker Two Tone Brown
Two Tone Brown is an early Rickenbacker finish from the 1950s, predating the more familiar colors of the F.C. Hall era. Found on lap steels and early Combo-era Spanish guitars, it features a warm two-tone contrast that reflects the design sensibilities of the early electric guitar period—simple, functional, and distinctly of its time. Like other early finishes such as Cloverfield Green, Two Tone Brown disappeared as Rickenbacker’s identity settled around the now-classic Fireglo, Jetglo, and Mapleglo palette in the late 1950s. Surviving examples are uncommon, often showing significant wear from decades of use. Because the finish is less well documented than later Rickenbacker colors, original instruments remain especially important to collectors and researchers studying the company’s earliest production.
