Vox Japan Modern Style

Vox, in general, has somewhat changed direction, starting in and around 2011, with focus on a lower price-point for their instruments. With an initial shift to Indonesia-made instruments, the more current offerings are usually made in China, or made in China/Assembled in Japan. In general, the origin of manufature is stamped on the rear of the headstock of the instrument (or on a sticker).
Post-Virage, Vox Japan hasn't really made much... but those they have made are excellent pro-level instruments. And IMO, are usually 'priced too high' - and more often than not they're limited editions of the entry-level China-made models, often only sold in Japan. Nothing wrong with that, but I think that approach limits the appeal...
But - everything I've seen from Vox Japan is top-notch. They're worth seeking out!
Production has seen the limited edition Starstream bass and guitar, and some very nice limited edition ukulele models.
This beautiful Vox Hello Kitty soprano has a Shadow under saddle pickup installed.
Not to be confused with the 2014 "VOX VU-33HK-NY-MG" which is a cheaper model made in the Philippines (Mango wood), this VOX VU-33HK is Made in Japan and is made of solid mahogany. Whether or not you're a fan of Hello Kitty, this is a superbly made Japanese solid mahogany soprano.
Limited edition of 400. I think these were only sold in Japan.
because I need two...
This one has a different case.
Vox Japan's electric ukulele - with a mahogany body, and rosewood fingerboard.
The Eleuku is equipped with a 1.5W output amplifier and 3-inch speaker. You can also connect it to an external amplifier.
This was a limited edition of 150, with a 'sister' edition of 150 Concert sized VEU-55C's.
This is the VSBA-A2S Starstream Artist Series bass in RDMR (red frame, metallic red body). Pro-level Japan made bass with Gotoh hardware and Aguilar AG-4J-70 pickups and the OBP-2 twin-band active preamp.
MSRP in 2019 of $2,199 USD, and you can find them in 2025 for about $500 when you can find them... :P
Great bass...!
The Vox "Starstream Type 1-24 with DiMarzio" in Metallic Wine Red/Wine Burst. (VSS1-24-MWRWB)
Made in 2020, the 5th and final chapter of the Starstream guitar line was a pro-level made in Japan version. Note 'Virage' knobs and pickups, and the usual Vox Japan excellence.
I think these were only for the Japanese market.
